Description
Centrifugal pump, also called sand pump, is widely used in the solids control system and drilling mud system. It can be taken as the feeding pump for the mud cleaner, desander and desilter, and mixing pump for the jet mud mixer, as well as supercharging pump for the mud pump or trip tank. Therefore, the centrifugal pump is named as desander pump, desilter pump, mixing pump, weighting pump or trip pump for different functions.
Structure
The structure of the horizontal centrifugal pump is simple too, including the base, motor, coupling and pump head assembly. Usually, in the solids control system for a drilling rig, the sand pump motor shall be explosion proof.
Working Principle
The motor drives the shaft of the sand pump to rotate through the coupling, then the power is transmitted from the shaft to drive the blade rotating. The drilling fluid is sucked in from the blade center and pass through the channel, then obtains energy and speeds up with the action of centrifugal force, and as last reach to the separation equipment. Sand pump transfers drilling fluid with a certain pressure and displacement to ensure these equipment work normally and efficiently.
